Computer Science and Engineering has become one of the most popular subject preferences among today’s generation. In Bangladesh, almost every university, no matter how popular or established, prioritizes CSE as a demandable subject for prospects wishing to achieve an edge in this competitive landscape.This field tackles the vast fields of data structure and algorithms, operating systems, networking, advanced programing languages, and the most trendy among all, artificial intelligence. In the ever growing digital age, there is no doubt that the infrastructure of globalization will be fully computerized and digitalized. Therefore, having an educational background in CSE will inevitably open up doors both home and abroad.
Opportunities in Bangladesh
Opportunities in Bangladesh include the software industry in particular. Both government and private sectors are yet to fully digitalized and are not yet fully integrated in the internet ecosystem. As a result, most circulars in government jobs will include CSE requirements no matter which department of government you are applying for. Moreover, established private business houses are looking to expand beyond the borders of Bangladesh and adopt international standards of production and business operation. In order to adapt to such a demand, they too are prioritizing CSE graduates, provided that they are well versed in coding and data structures. It is important to also note that this increased demand also comes with increased expectations. It would be unwise to think that only having a degree will land you a lucrative salary. The scope for further skill development beyond just a degree is much more spread out, that is why you will often see CSE graduates competition will people outside their own profession for the jobs of software engineers, application developers etc. for there is a huge library of information in the mode of informal self taught courses which many choose to take as CSE is still a demandable field. All in all, the demand is and will remain steadily high, but the competition and expertise is rising, therefore leaning on just the degree will not be fruitful if you want to excel in a career in computer science.
Opportunities abroad
Most engineering subjects, especially computer science and engineering, may require additional standardized tests for one to apply for his masters or phd. All the top universities in the west will provide additional scholarships as it is also a demandable subject for their economy although the competition is steep. Majority of the universities in the US will require GRE or GMAT for any student to pursue a postgraduate degree there, and even an undergraduate degree will require a good SAT score. However, some countries in Europe, such as Germany and Austria and on the outskirts, Australia accept conventional IELTS scores and are a desirable destination with lower costs. Students having a postgraduate certificate from foreign universities will certainly gain an advantage if they choose to come back to Bangladesh. Many private and public universities are understaffed and there is demand for lecturers and a career in academia is well suited with adequate compensations. Settling abroad is also an option as this is a desirable skill set for foreign companies as well.
